by Bot-Hosting Python Moderation Official

The all-in-one bot: moderation, mod logs, custom commands, economy, trivia and thousands of community plugins. Fully yours.

Setup on Bot-Hosting

Red is the most popular self-hosted all-in-one Discord bot: moderation (warnings, mutes, bans, filters, mod log), custom commands, economy, trivia, reminders and fine-grained permissions. Thousands of community cogs add leveling, tickets, starboard and more with one command.

1. Create the bot on Discord

  1. Open the Discord Developer Portal and click New Application.
  2. Go to Bot, click Reset Token and copy it (DISCORD_TOKEN).
  3. Still on Bot, turn on Presence Intent, Server Members Intent and Message Content Intent. Red needs all three.
  4. Get your own user ID: Settings > Advanced > Developer Mode, then right-click your name > Copy User ID (OWNER_ID).

2. Deploy

Fill the variables and click Deploy. The first start installs Red and creates its data folder, it takes a couple of minutes. When the console shows the bot is connected, it also prints an invite link: open it to add Red to your server.

3. Load what you need

Red starts light. In your server (default prefix !):

!load mod modlog filter cleanup
!help

Browse the core cogs with !cogs, and community cogs on index.discord.red (!repo add then !cog install).

Good to know

  • Your settings live in the red-data folder with your files and survive restarts.
  • Red's Audio cog is not part of this template. For music, deploy our Music Bot (Lavalink) template next to it.
  • Community cogs run their own code: install only repositories you trust.
  • Give it at least 512 MB of RAM, more if you install many cogs.
  • Want anti-raid and anti-spam on this bot? Add the Defender module: !load downloader, !repo add x26 https://github.com/Twentysix26/x26-Cogs, !cog install x26 defender, !load defender. Or deploy our Server Protection Bot template, which comes with it preloaded.

Overview

Red is a fully modular bot – meaning all features and commands can be enabled/disabled to your liking, making it completely customizable. This is a self-hosted bot – meaning you will need to host and maintain your own instance. You can turn Red into an admin bot, music bot, trivia bot, new best friend or all of these together!

Red is built for Discord, a popular VOIP and instant messaging platform. It's best suited for use in guilds (also known as servers), where it utilizes Discord's well-documented API to communicate and deliver its many features. Discord offers its API to encourage developers to explore their creativity by building programs, tools, and services that enhance the Discord experience.

Installation is easy, and you do NOT need to know anything about coding! Aside from installing and updating, every part of the bot can be controlled from within Discord.

The default set of modules includes and is not limited to:

  • Moderation features (kick/ban/softban/hackban, mod-log, filter, chat cleanup)
  • Trivia (lists are included and can be easily added)
  • Music features (YouTube, SoundCloud, local files, playlists, queues)
  • Stream alerts (Twitch, Youtube, Picarto)
  • Bank (slot machine, user credits)
  • Custom commands
  • Imgur/gif search
  • Admin automation (self-role assignment, cross-server announcements, mod-mail reports)
  • Customisable command permissions

Additionally, other plugins (cogs) can be easily found and added from our growing community of cog repositories.
