Setup on Bot-Hosting

A protection bot for your server, built on Red and its Defender module by Red's own creator. It catches raids and spam the moment they start, watches new joins, and gives your staff fast moderation tools. Everything runs on your own bot, nothing is shared with a third-party service.

Note

All in one. This template installs its own Red bot with Defender already loaded. You do not need the Red template. Already running Red? See its page to add Defender to it instead.

What it protects against

  • Raids and spam floods: members who post too fast are banned, kicked or timed out automatically, based on how new they are.
  • Join spikes and fresh accounts: alerts when many accounts join at once or very young accounts arrive.
  • Invite links and custom rules: the Warden engine lets you write rules (mentions, attachments, keywords, regex).
  • Emergency mode: when no moderator answers, trusted helpers get temporary powers.
  • Moderation: ban, kick, timeout, warnings, word filter, mod-log cases, purge.

1. Create the bot on Discord

  1. Open the Discord Developer Portal and click New Application.
  2. Go to Bot, click Reset Token and copy it (RED_TOKEN).
  3. Still on Bot, turn on all three privileged intents: Presence, Server Members and Message Content. The bot will not start without them.
  4. Go to OAuth2 > URL Generator, tick bot and applications.commands, give it Administrator, open the link and add it to your server.

2. Deploy

Paste the token and click Deploy. The first start installs Red, it takes a couple of minutes. When the console shows the bot is connected, it is ready.

3. Set up the protection (once)

In your server (default prefix !), turn on the core and tell it where to alert your staff:

!dset general enable true
!dset general notifychannel #mod-alerts
!dset general notifyrole @Moderators
!dset general trustedroles @Moderators

Then enable the modules you want:

!dset raiderdetection enable true
!dset joinmonitor enable true
!dset invitefilter enable true

!def status shows what is on, what is off and what each module still needs. Set a mod-log channel with !modlogset modlog #mod-log.

Good to know

  • Pair it with Discord's built-in protections: a verification level of Medium or High, Onboarding, native AutoMod and 2FA required for moderators.
  • Give it at least 512 MB of RAM.
  • Settings live in the red-data folder and survive restarts.

x26-Cogs

Cogs made by Twentysix for the Red community

Cogs

Index

Allows you to browse a Red-Index repo/cog index directly from your Red instance, helping you discover new repos and cogs. This is integrated with the core Downloader, so you can easily install a new repo or a new cog by clicking a reaction. Yay technology!

Defender

Protects your community with automod features and empowers the staff and users you trust with advanced moderation tools. For more information about this cog you can read the docs and my write-up.
This cog offers:

  • A wide range of modules, automatic and manual, designed to counter many common patterns of bad actors and thwart large scale attacks
  • A very customizable experience: every single module can be fine tuned to better fit your community
  • A smart way to subdivide your userbase in ranks, so that your regulars will never be caught in the crossfire
  • An extremely versatile module, Warden, that allows you to define complex custom rules to better moderate, monitor and manage your community
  • A unique (and optional) way to let your community help you when you can't
  • The peace of mind that only a smart automod can bring :-)
