Common Devin Desktop issues and fixes
What people run into most when they add Bot-Hosting, and how to get past it.
Bot-Hosting shows Needs authentication in Devin Desktop
Stored sign-ins expire or get revoked. Open Customize > MCPs and click Authenticate next to bot-hosting to clear the old credentials and rerun the browser sign-in, or run devin mcp logout bot-hosting and then devin mcp login bot-hosting.
devin command not found when adding an MCP server
Devin Desktop puts the devin CLI on your PATH only on Enterprise plans. Install the Devin CLI from Devin’s docs, or skip it and paste the entry into ~/.config/devin/mcp_config.json (%APPDATA%\devin\mcp_config.json on Windows).
Bot-Hosting tools don't show up in Devin Desktop
Check that bot-hosting is switched on under Customize > MCPs > This computer and refresh the list. Agents are disabled in folders open in Restricted Mode, so trust the folder. On enterprise teams, an admin allowlist or MCP registry can also block the server.
What your AI can do
Everything you do in the dashboard, asked in plain words.
Build and host your bot
It creates the deployment, writes the code, installs the packages and starts it.
Find and fix crashes
It reads the logs, explains why the bot stopped and fixes the file or the setting.
Manage the rest
Files, environment variables, packages, domains and resources, on request.
Stay in control
Secret variables stay masked, backups can be restored, and you can disconnect the AI at any time.
Try asking
Copy a request, paste it to your AI and watch it work.
Deploy this folder to a new Bot-Hosting deployment and start it.
My bot on Bot-Hosting crashed. Read the logs, fix the code here and deploy again.
Check that DISCORD_TOKEN is set as a secret variable on Bot-Hosting, then restart the bot.
Questions, answered.
Where is the Devin Desktop MCP config file?
Your personal file is ~/.config/devin/mcp_config.json, or %APPDATA%\devin\mcp_config.json on Windows, and it applies to every project. A project can add .devin/mcp_config.json to share servers and .devin/mcp_config.local.json for entries kept out of git.
Do I need to sign in again if I used Bot-Hosting in another app?
Yes. Each MCP client keeps its own OAuth session, so a sign-in from Windsurf, Claude Code or another editor is not reused. Devin Desktop asks you to sign in the first time it uses the server.
How do I pause or remove Bot-Hosting in Devin Desktop?
Use the toggle next to bot-hosting in Customize, MCPs, This computer, or run devin mcp disable bot-hosting. Run devin mcp remove bot-hosting to delete it and devin mcp logout bot-hosting to clear its sign-in. You can also revoke it in Bot-Hosting under Developer, then My apps.
Is it free?
Yes. The MCP server comes with every Bot-Hosting account, free plan included. What your AI can create stays within your plan, like in the dashboard.
